The result of this development is a winch bumper designed to be light, strong by design, retain a very good approach angle and protect the vehicles front winch, whilst still adding to the vehicles aesthetics. The bumper can accommodate the largest of winches to include the Warn 8274 in its standard form, the Gigglepin 8274 twin motor, various extended winch drums and the mighty Gigglepin 82/83 freespool, and yet still retains a very respectable approach angle even on the TD5 Defender with its limited space due to the intercooler being front mounted.
Currently to fit 90/110/130 Defender, Its main component is a 3 inch diameter "A" bar constructed from CDS tubing stretching from outside to outside of chassis rails and incorporating six bends from one piece of tube (no cutting and welding.)
Designed to tilt the winch forward slightly allows the base of the winch to be moved back closer to the radiator. On later vehicles with front mounted intercoolers this has a big impact on reducing the depth of the bumper, and in turn approach angle. In addition to the obvious gain from the superior approach angle the bumper can be rested against an object while giving full protection to the winch and still leave room to gain access to rope and fairlead. This is a design inspired by the "rock crawling bumper". 6mm steel gussets and faceplate tie the components together adding strength to vital areas of stress. It incorporates two recovery "D" rings that are welded both sides of the main "A" frame for strength. An integrated steering guard finishes the practicality and look of this quality bumper adding to its value for money
